The festival, leader in electronic music, featuring top artists
The Montjuïc and Gran Via venues dance to the beat of Sónar
Fira de Barcelona will become the new setting for Sónar, one of the world’s biggest electronic music and multimedia art festival. At this edition, which is being held from June 12th to 14th, the Montjuïc Exhibition Centre will be the daytime venue for the first time, while the Gran Via Exhibition Centre will host the night time programme.
This year’s performances include Massive Attack, with their new show, Plastikman with a brand new repertoire and old numbers and Chic, one of the big disco bands. There will also be dance music sessions by artists such as Four Tet, James Holden, Jon Hopkins, Oneohtrix Point Never and Bonobo, among many others, and concerts by various Nordic artists such as Neneh Cherry and Lykke Li.
At this edition young electronic music talents will feature prominently, as well as the new space “Despacio powered by McIntosh”, where the DJs James Murphy and 2manydjs will be playing vinyl or six hours. In addition to the concerts, Sónar will feature film screenings and exhibitions of multimedia art works and experimental technologies.
The festival, which celebrated its 20th anniversary last year, received over 121,000 people, half of them foreign visitors.
