Smart City Expo has closed its first edition in Curitiba by exceeding all expectations
The Brazilian city of Curitiba has closed its first edition of Smart City Expo with great success in participation. The event, which was organized by Fira de Barcelona in collaboration with the smart cities consultancy ICITIES and the support of the city of Curitiba and the convention centre and strategic partner WTC Curitiba, was the meeting place for 50 cities in Brazil and Latin America, with visitors from 25 countries and the participation of 84 national and international speakers and moderators.
The first edition of Smart City Expo Curitiba closed its doors having exceeded all expectations and attracted a total of 5,577 accredited professionals over the two days that the event took place. There were nearly 30 sessions dealing with Disruptive Technology, Governance, Digital Innovation and Economic Development and Sustainable Cities of the Future which were very popular among the visitors and filled practically all of the available seating in the halls of the Expo Renault Barigui site.
Around 50 mayors of cities in Brazil, Colombia and Peru took part in this first edition of the congress under the heading of “Innovation as the motor for economic development”, by engaging and dialogue and debating the challenges facing cities in the digital age.
Both the Congress’ exhibition space and Smart Plaza attracted lots of visitors and generated many contacts between companies and institutions in the local and international smart city sector. In this sense, a cooperation agreement was signed by Assespro (National Federation of Software Companies), IBQP (Brazilian Quality and Productivity Institute) and Icities Smart Cities Solutions for the creation of the Brazilian Smart Cities Observatory to be based in Silicon Valley, San Francisco.
Consolidated internationalisation
Besides Curitiba, Smart City Expo has been held in 10 different cities around the world, including Puebla, Buenos Aires and Istanbul. The eighth edition of the Smart City Expo World Congress will be held from 13 to 15 November in the Gran Via location of Fira de Barcelona.
