The first edition of Smart City Expo Doha faces the great challenges of smart cities
The city of Doha will be the host of the next edition of the Smart City Expo in the Middle East. The leading event on smart cities and urban solutions will explain the challenges involved in the creation of these types of cities and, under the slogan “Safe, Smart Cities”, it will present the best proposals to develop them. The event, organised by Fira Barcelona and the Qatar Ministry of Transport and Communications, will be held from 30th to 31st October as part of QITCOM 2019, one of the benchmark technology events.
The summit will not only address issues related to the development of cities and sustainability such as transport, infrastructure and public spaces; but it will also deal with aspects related to technology and security such as Big Data, blockchain, privacy regulations, cybersecurity and data protection. In addition, it will show some examples of some smart city projects in the country, such as Msheireb Downtown Doha and the Smart City of Lusail.
So attendees can get to know new initiatives and experiences, experts from all over the world will show them the projects that are being implemented and are going to be carried out in countries from 5 continents. In addition, they will be able to connect with other professionals in the sector, exchange knowledge and generate synergies with national and international companies.
Among the noteworthy authorities present at the event are Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda and Hassan Al-Sayed, Minister of Transport and Communications of Qatar. Additionally, more than 50 speakers will participate during the congress, including leading industry figures such as; Andrés de León, CEO of Hyperloop Transportation Technologies; Kristin Lovejoy, Global Director of Cybersecurity at Ernest & Young; Michael Steep, Executive Director of the Stanford Engineering Center; Andy Purdy, Director of Security at Huawei; or Mikko Hypponen, Director of Research at F-Secure, among others.

Smart City Expo Doha forms part of the internationalisation strategy of the Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC), the main international summit on smart cities and urban solutions organised by Fira Barcelona. Along with Doha, the Smart City Expo network of events also presents regional congresses in Atlanta (United States), Curitiba (Brazil), Kyoto (Japan), Buenos Aires (Argentina) and Mexico. The ninth edition of the Smart City Expo World Congress will be held from 19th to 21st November in the Gran Via venue of Fira Barcelona.
