The event achieves carbon neutral certification
Mobile World Congress, the sustainable trade show
The Mobile World Congress is the largest event to achieve the carbon neutral certification. Being held at the Gran Via venue, one of Europe’s most sustainable and energy-efficient venues, has been an important ally in this accomplishment.
The Mobile World Congress, the world’s leading mobile industry event, has been awarded this recognition for offsetting the environmental impact generated by its congress activities and visitors by means of various social actions such as development of the wind energy plan in Rajasthan (India).
This was confirmed today by John Hoffman, CEO of GSMA Ltd, the organizer of the Mobile World Congress, which in 2014 brought together 1,800 companies and 86,999 visitors, generating an economic impact for Barcelona and its surrounding area of 397 million euros.
This great event is held at the Gran Via venue which is home to one of the world’s largest roof-built photovoltaic plants, boasting 25,900 solar panels which generate 5.86 GWh of electricity per year, thus avoiding the emission of more than 2,200 tonnes of CO2. As well as its modern facilities, Fira de Barcelona is also committed to recycling, improved energy efficiency, eco-friendly stand design and optimizing services to minimize the impact on the environment of its trade fair business.
