Ibtm world is the biggest international showcase for the business and events travel industry: it attracts more than 15,000 trade professionals from all over the world, organises more than 70,000 meetings and offers an international hosted buyer programme that embraces every leading company and operator in the sector, with a notable increase this year in buyers from North Africa.
The three-day event showcases the latest destinations, products and specialist services for organising professional travel events, with the support of destinations, travel agencies, conference centres, technology service companies and MICE suppliers.
On its 30th anniversary, Ibtm world has prepared a top-level training programme featuring conferences, workshops and seminars, which will analyse the latest trends in the sector and what’s new in terms of technological innovations, safety, sustainability, customer commitment and staff recruitment.
Barcelona, the destination of choice
Ibtm world has been hosted by Fira de Barcelona since 2004, since when it has experienced growth of 50%.
The event is hosted by the city of Barcelona, one of the first choices of international event organisers. According to the annual ranking of the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), Barcelona came third in the number of congresses held in 2016 (a total of 181), only topped by Paris and Vienna.
Worldwide, Spain is fifth on the ranking of the most congresses held in 2016 (a total of 533) behind the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom and France.
