Renewal of the agreement with the Barcelona Convention Bureau and the trade fair institution for the next editions
Ibtm World, the leading business tourism trade fair, will continue to be held in Barcelona until 2022
The world’s leading business tourism trade fair, Ibtm World, will continue to be held at Fira de Barcelona’s Gran Via venue until at least 2022. This was made public today by the company organising the event, Reed Exhibitions, which has signed a three-year renewal agreement with the Barcelona Convention Bureau and the trade fair institution. This announcement coincides with the opening today of a new edition of the event that will take place until next Thursday.
The renewal of the agreement strengthens the existing relationship between the three organisations going back to 2004, the year in which this important international event was held for the first time in Barcelona.
Event director David Thompson stressed, “We are excited to continue our close working relationship with Barcelona over the next three years. The city is a great host for Ibtm World and Fira de Barcelona’s Gran Via venue provides the perfect facilities for our needs. Working together with our registered partners, we expect Ibtm to continue to evolve to ensure it remains at the forefront of the industry, offering the best opportunities for doing business, showcasing the latest technology, providing inspiring content and new opportunities to attendees.
For his part, the director of the Barcelona Convention Bureau at Turisme de Barcelona, Christoph Tessmar, considers that “this new agreement confirms the strength of the collaboration between Barcelona and Ibtm, and allows us to continue holding a very successful event, both for the meetings and events industry, as well as in terms of economic impact for the city”.
According to Pere Camprubí, External Business Director of Fira de Barcelona, “We are very satisfied with the continuity of Ibtm World and proud of Fira Barcelona’s ability to attract and maintain events of this level, as well as the functionality, design and commitment to sustainability that the Gran Via venue offers. This agreement is great news for the city that strengthens its position as a benchmark in the field of business tourism.
From today until Thursday 21st November, Ibtm World is exhibiting the latest trends in destinations, products and services specialised in the organisation of professional meetings, with the presence of travel agencies, tour operators, conference and convention centres, hotel chains, service companies and organisers of international events. More than 2,600 exhibitors and 15,000 professionals are expected to attend.
The next edition of the event, that already falls within the new agreement, will be held from 1st to 3rd December 2020 in Fira Barcelona´s Gran Vía venue.
