About 20,000 specialists gather at Gran Via
Fira de Barcelona, world centre of respiratory medicine
Recent advances in lung disease diagnosis and treatment will be presented at the annual congress of the European Respiratory Society (ERS), the largest in the world in this field. It will take place from 7th to 11th September at the Gran Via site.
It brings together around 20,000 delegates, including pulmonologists and other health professionals, who will discuss the latest advances in prevention, diagnosis and treatment of lung diseases, which cause one in six deaths in the world.
The experts will put special emphasis on raising awareness of the harmful effects of smoking, which remains the leading cause of this type of pathology. According to the European Lung Foundation, cigarette smoke contains over 4,000 chemicals, many of which are toxic and can cause cancer.
The conference is a scientific programme and training class that includes more than 4,200 technical presentations and also has an exhibition area to display new products.
The holding of the ERS Annual Congress for the second time at Fira- the first was in 2010- reflects the institution’s strategy to attract major events related to health sciences. This year, for example, medical congresses at Fira will bring together some 49,000 professionals.
