Fira de Barcelona joins the Board of EMECA, the association of major European trade fair venues
Next January, Fira de Barcelona, represented by International Business Director Ricard Zapatero, will join the Board of Directors of EMECA, the European Major Exhibition Centres Association, the most important grouping of trade fair venues in Europe.
Created in 1992, EMECA, is based in Brussels and made up of 22 large fairgrounds throughout Europe, totalling a surface area of over 100,000 m2. Altogether, they organize and host 1,900 events each year that are attended by more than 360,000 exhibitors and about 42 million visitors. The economic impact of this activity has been estimated at more than 120,000 million euros, according to a study conducted by the above association.
Ricard Zapatero, who represents Fira at the organization’s biannual general assemblies, was elected as a member of EMECA’s Board of Directors at its meeting recently held in Barcelona.
EMECA’s Board of Directors is made up of six members and also has different working commissions geared towards conducting initiatives on behalf of fairground infrastructures and improving services for operators, exhibitors and visitors.
Fira’s International Business Director emphasizes that “the major fair venues are aware of the importance of events and congresses for both companies and cities and territories”. In this regard, he explains that “experiences and shared work contribute to the excellence of infrastructures, services and technological offers”.
