UEG Week expects to bring together more than 12,000 experts from around the world
Fira de Barcelona hosts Europe’s most important Gastroenterology conference
UEG Week, Europe’s most important conference on digestive disorders, will be held for the third time at Fira Barcelona, after its editions in 2015 and 2017. The 2019 edition, which takes place from 19th to 23rd October, includes a first-class scientific programme and it expects to bring together more than 12,000 experts from 100 countries at the Gran Via venue.
The meeting, organised by the United European Gastroenterology (UEG) organisation, presents the latest advances in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of digestive and liver diseases, through surgery, gastrointestinal oncology and endoscopy.
It organises a comprehensive conference and training programme with more than 200 scientific sessions, 1,000 conferences and the presentation of more than 400 medical studies. It also has an exhibition area with more than 140 companies to be seen.
Digestive system disorders remain one of the main causes of hospitalisation and mortality in Europe. According to a study recently published by the UEG, millions of Europeans are at risk of suffering from chronic digestive diseases, such as cancer, and pathologies related to wheat intolerance and obesity, due to unhealthy diets, particularly due to the intake of ultra-processed foods and trans-fats, such as soft drinks, sweets and frozen ready meals, among others. The study indicates that a 10% increase in the proportion of ultra-processed foods in diets is associated with a 12% increase in the overall risk of cancer.
