A large number of brands will participate in the key event for the industry
Automobile Barcelona 2025 kicks off
Automobile Barcelona, Fira de Barcelona’s 106-year International Motor Show, will hold its 43rd edition from 9 to 18 May 2025 at the Montjuïc venue. The event, which has the support of the Spanish Association of Automobile and Truck Manufacturers (ANFAC), will showcase the latest developments from some of the main automotive brands, will promote electromobility and boost sales in the sector.
Two months before its celebration, the Show has already confirmed the presence of major brands such as Baltasar, BYD, Cupra, DR, Ebro, E-Miles, Ford, Honda, Hyundai, Jaecoo, KGM, Lynk&Co, MG, Mobilize, Nissan, Omoda, Renault, Seat, Silence, Skywell, Sportequipe, Suzuki, SWM, Tesla, Volvo and Xpeng.
The President of Automobile Barcelona, Enrique Lacalle, pointed out that “the show has established itself as one of the three main European events in the sector and that is why brands do not want to miss this event. In addition, we are the best platform and showcase to support the industry at a key moment at an international level, as well as to boost sales and promote the change that the national car fleet needs”. In this sense, Lacalle stated that “hybrid and electric vehicles are the future. Brands have made an extraordinary effort to transform their ranges and make them more sustainable and all that remains is for the public to find a place to try them and be convinced. That place is Automobile Barcelona”.
For his part, the General Director of ANFAC, José López-Tafall, said that “there is no turning back from increasingly clean and connected mobility. Brands are betting on electrification without losing sight of safety and the constant introduction of driving assistance systems that reinforce our safety. Events such as Automobile Barcelona, which are very experiential, allow the customer not only to see the latest developments but also to test and ride electric vehicles, see how they charge and how they can make life easier for us on board with the latest technological advances”.
According to data from ANFAC, the car market has started 2025 with an increase in sales of 8.4%, with 162,443 units up to February. In addition, sales of electrified passenger cars, both electric and plug-in hybrids, have increased by 34.3%, reaching 23,267 new registrations. With this figure, the electrified market manages to stand at 14.3% of the total, 2.8 percentage points above the same period last year. This is in addition to the results of 2024, which closed with a total of 1,016,885 units sold, 7.1% more than the previous year, and a figure that allows the barrier of one million units to be exceeded for the first time since the pandemic.
Barcelona, passion for motoring
Under the theme ‘Pasión por el motor, pasión por Barcelona’, Automobile 2025 wants to contribute to the expansion of the electric and plug-in hybrid vehicle, which has an increasingly accessible and diversified offer. Thus, visitors will be able to get behind the controls of the cars presented by the participating brands, passing through the “Test drive” area to get into the available vehicles and drive the new electrified models along the layout of the historic Montjuïc racetrack and check their performance at the wheel.
Held every two years, Automobile Barcelona is the only event in Spain that has the international recognition of the OICA (Organisation Internationale des Constructeurs d’Automobiles).
