New York hosts the third Smart City Expo USA with inclusivity as the main theme
Fira de Barcelona lands in New York with a new edition of Smart City Expo USA (SCEUSA), the North American edition of the leading smart city event taking place on May 22-23 with more than 100 speakers, 300 government representatives and 100 exhibiting companies and institutions. The leading urban innovation event in the United States will address how smart cities must work to become more inclusive in their transformation process.
Organized by Fira de Barcelona in collaboration with the National League of Cities, the African American Mayors Association and the Office of the Mayor of New York, SCEUSA will take place at New York’s Pier 36 convention center under the theme ‘The Future is Here: Leading Cities into an Inclusive 21st Century’.
The show aims to explore the opportunities for economic progress offered by digital transformation, analyze the most current and emerging trends in technology, and build discussions with the goal of creating more connected, equitable cities that foster the development and well-being of people and their communities.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams said, “New York has always been a city of innovators and that’s why we’re proud to host Smart City Expo USA 2024. Technology can help us achieve great things, from addressing climate change to improving public safety, and if we use it properly it can help us build 21st century cities that work better for all people.”
In turn, Fira de Barcelona’s International Business Director, Ricard Zapatero, said that “we are delighted that a metropolis like New York is joining the group of cities around the world that are hosting Smart City Expo”. For Zapatero, “we are sure that its leadership, global influence and dynamism will provide a new impetus to urban transformation.”
The congress as centerpiece
The New York edition of Smart City Expo USA will be structured around a congress with five main themes: Infrastructure and Design; Energy and Sustainability: Mobility and Transportation; Cutting-edge Technologies; Legislation, Policy and Finance; and Security and Civil Engagement. Over 100 speakers will address issues such as the role of Artificial Intelligence in sustainable urban transformation, data-driven healthcare, universal connectivity, new sustainable mobility, and cybersecurity.
SCEUSA will also feature an exhibition space that will bring together more than 100 companies and institutions to showcase innovative urban projects and solutions. Exhibitors include Accenture, Dell Technologies, Esri, Google, Helium, KPMG, Mastercard, Microsoft, TerraGo Technologies and Volta Charging, among others.
Fira de Barcelona around the world
Holding international editions of Smart City Expo World Congress, the world’s leading event on urban innovation organized annually by Fira de Barcelona, is part of the Barcelona-based trade fair institution’s internationalization strategy.
Many cities in the United States, Latin America, Europe, and Asia have hosted editions of the event since 2013. This year, they will be held in Curitiba (Brazil), Riyadh (Saudi Arabia), Santiago del Estero (Argentina), Merida (Mexico), Santiago de Chile (Chile), Bogota (Colombia), Hangzhou (China) and Doha (Qatar).
