This month the CCIB hosts the congress on neuroendocrine tumours and the congress of specialists in Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease.
The CCIB kicks off the calendar of medical events and anticipates a year of major congresses
Today and tomorrow the Barcelona International Convention Centre (CCIB) is hosting the annual congress of the European Neuroendocrine Tumour Society (ENETS), kicking off an intense calendar of congress and medical events that will continue next week with the international congress for Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s specialists. In this way, the CCIB, located in the Forum and managed by Fira de Barcelona, returns to the progressive normalisation of its activity with the forecast of more than 70 events this year, of which twenty are major medical congresses.
Doctors and scientific researchers from all over the world have returned to the CCIB today for the first of the scheduled major medical congresses of the year. The 19th ENETS Congress, which has been held at CCIB for a decade, will bring together a thousand attendees until tomorrow to present and debate the latest science and research in the field of neuroendocrine tumours. The scientific programme includes ten sessions, 200 scientific papers and the presentation of some twenty studies.
Founded in 2004, ENETS is the most relevant scientific organisation in this kind of tumour and has more than 1,500 members from different medical fields, such as oncology, endocrinology, nuclear medicine, radiology and surgery, among others. Precisely, in 2020, Vall d’Hebron Hospital became the first centre in Spain to achieve the prestigious certification awarded by ENETS as a centre of excellence in the treatment of neuroendocrine tumours.
The AD/PD 2022, the international congress on Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases and related neurological disorders, will also be held from 15 to 20 March. With 150 scientific sessions and a dozen speakers, it will attract more than 3,500 medical and scientific professionals from all over the world with a series of conferences that combine the different neurodegenerative diseases in the same setting and examine their similarities and differences. The annual congress will focus on the latest advances, disease mechanisms, diagnosis, prevention and the development of innovative therapies.
Major international activity
The general manager of the CCIB, Marc Rodríguez, stated that “we have started the year with optimism and prudence, with the aim of continuing to contribute to the economic recovery of the city and our environment”. Specifically, the CCIB has already hosted 8 events during the first two months of the year and the arrival of the first major medical congresses consolidates the positive trend of a return to normality as evidenced by the more than 70 events scheduled for 2022.
In this regard, Rodríguez reiterated the importance of medical congresses because “they are a space that promotes the exchange of ideas and scientific knowledge for the benefit of society as a whole”. He also stressed that in the city and in the country “we have top-level health professionals and centres and they are a great pole of knowledge and innovation” closely linked to the arrival of these events.
Specifically, in 2022 the CCIB will host around twenty major medical events, such as the International Neuromodulation Society (INS) World Congress, the World Congress for Gastrointestinal Cancer Specialists (WCGI), the European Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology Society (CIRSE) Congress, the International Society of Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology (CIRSE) Congress, the International Society of Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology (ICSIR) Congress, the International Society of Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology (ICSIR) Congress and the International Society of Cardiology (ICSIR) Congress, the congress of the International Society of Paediatric Oncology (SIOP), the congress of the European Academy of Paediatric Societies (EAPS), the congress of the European Association of Nuclear Medicine (EANM) and the European Breast Cancer Congress (EBCC).
The Barcelona International Convention Centre (CCIB), located in the Besós area, in the technology and business district known as 22@, is made up of the Convention Centre and the Forum Auditorium, with a combined surface area of 100,000 square metres. Its management by Fira de Barcelona, together with Gran Via and Montjuïc venues, allows for the integrated operation of the city’s three major trade fair and congress venues, which will strengthen the international positioning of the institution and the city.
