The event will feature around 100 exhibiting companies and two testing areas for new types of vehicles
Smart Mobility Congress paves the road towards the mobility of tomorrow
The Smart Mobility Congress (SMC), the trade show and congress organized by Fira de Barcelona focusing on urban and interurban mobility, will hold its third edition from 19 to 21 November under the theme Leading the Way. On 2019 it will gather over 100 different companies and will be held together with Smart City Expo World Congress, the world’s leading summit on cities and smart urban solutions. The 3-day conference aims to accelerate the development of mobility solutions and tackle urban mobility challenges faced by modern cities worldwide.
The congress program will be structured in five main themes –Intelligent Transport Infrastructures, Mobility of Tomorrow, Shared Mobility, Sustainable Mobility, Seamless Transportation and Public Transport– and will cover topics such as Intelligent Transport Systems, self-driving vehicles, air mobility, Connected vehicles, MaaS (Mobility as a Service), MoD (Mobility on Demand), Micro-mobility, Multi-modal transportation, integrated mobility plans and public transportation, among many others.
To tackle these issues and grasp the opportunities ahead, the Congress will feature expert from around the world like Jeanette Sadik-Khan, principal Transportation at Bloomberg Associates; François Bausch, Luxembourg Minister for Mobility and Public Work; Abigail Binay, Mayor of Makati (Philippines); Martha Thorne, Dean at the IE School of Architecture and Design; Mar Alarcon, founder and CEO of SocialCar; Jacob Bangsgaard, CEO at Ertico and President of MaaS Alliance; and Shuhei Okuno, Deputy Director General, Climate Change, Yokohama City.
Pere Calvet, President of Smart Mobility Congress, said it that “Barcelona becomes once more the Csapital city of smart mobility with a new edition of the Smart Mobility Congress. And it is because Barcelona has been an innovative city spearheading the development of this concept of mobility, more sustainable and respectful with the environment with an essential role of public transport, connected and shared, as a fundamental part of what a smart city should be.”
The director of Smart Mobility Congress, Ugo Valenti, has said that “mobility is undoubtedly one of the key issues that cities face. Our goal is to help cities and countries develop new mobility strategies to design more sustainable transport systems that are capable of covering every citizen’s need. We are confident we are offering the best set of tools available and that the Congress will grow in the coming years”.
New vehicles test drive
On its third edition, SMC will include two different test drive areas for new vehicles. Hall 1 of Fira de Barcelona’s Gran Via venue will host an indoor circuit for electric scooters and bicycles while autonomous vehicles from exhibiting companies will perform live demonstrations in an outdoor circuit located between Hall 1 and Hall 2 where Smart City Expo World Congress will be held.
