The distinction of the World Travel Tourism Council is the first in terms of safe global tourism
Fira de Barcelona receives the Safe Travels stamp for its protocol against COVID-19
The prevention and safety protocol against COVID-19 developed by Fira de Barcelona for its venues and events has merited the “Safe Travels” global stamp from the World Travel Tourism Council (WTTC). The set of measures implemented by the trade fair institution has been developed in collaboration with the Risk management specialized consultancy Aon and the advice of the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona.
The “Safe Travels” is the first global seal on safety and hygiene for travel and tourism, specifically designed for COVID-19 and similar epidemics. The seal allows travelers and companies in the travel and tourism sector to identify those destinations and institutions around the world that have implemented health and hygiene protocols aligned with the WTTC’s “Safe Travels” criteria, endorsed, at their time, by the World Health Organization (WHO).
In this way, the institution obtains this distinction for its protocol of security measures and prevention against COVID-19 with the aim of holding its events with the maximum guarantees for workers, organizers, exhibitors and visitors. The fair institution plans to resume face-to-face activity in 2021, especially starting next spring with the holding of important professional and international events at the Montjuïc and Gran Via venues.
About the WTTC
The World Travel and Tourism Council is a forum for the tourism industry made up of members from the global business community and works with governments to raise awareness of Travel and Tourism’s value, not just as one of the world’s largest economic sectors, but also to the many communities and travelers enriched through their experiences. Its scope of action includes the investigation of the economic and social impact, as well as the organization of global and regional meetings focused on the development of this industry. In Barcelona, the WTTC operates through its local partner, Turisme de Barcelona, who is responsible of managing the “Safe Travels” stamp.
