Chemistry trade fair and new frontier materials initiative enter into collaboration agreement
Expoquimia and PUZZLE X to collaborate to accelerate the development of frontier materials
The use of frontier materials such as graphene, 2D materials, advanced polymers, nanomaterials and quantum materials will shape future technological innovations and can help to build a better future in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). To that end, Expoquimia, the International Chemistry Event, and PUZZLE X, a new initiative and event in the field of frontier materials, will collaborate to boost understanding and development of those materials.
Visitors to the International Chemistry Event, which will take place from 14th to 17th September at Fira de Barcelona’s Gran Via exhibition centre, will learn about the first PUZZLE X, to be held in November at the same venue. This new project will in turn support Expoquimia, promoting the event to the members of the Advanced Material Future Preparedness Taskforce (AMPT), which organises PUZZLE X together with Fira and Mobile World Capital Barcelona.
Pilar Navarro, director of Expoquimia, says that the agreement reflects “the obvious synergies between this event, which exhibits tangible solutions using these new materials, and PUZZLE X, which adds a new family – frontier materials – to what we offer, with great added value.”
PUZZLE X will be held from 16-18 November co-located with Smart City Expo World Congress and Tomorrow.Mobility. This initiative boasts a venture builder and business incubator to support materials technology startups, attract investment and build an ecosystem that positions Barcelona as the epicentre of frontier materials and their intersection with the SDGs.
Zina Jarrahi Cinker, Director General of AMPT, said that: “this agreement is yet another step for PUZZLE X towards our goal of creating a platform where we can bring the pieces of the puzzle together. AMPT is built on the premise of partnerships that will drive frontier material innovation as building blocks of the next generation of technologies. We look forward to joining forces with Expoquimia to further this goal.”
Area Mat 20-30 at Expoquimia
The most innovative materials and their potential applications will be showcased at Expoquimia in Area Mat 20-30. Designed with the support of the Materfad Materials Centre in Barcelona, the Leitat technology centre and Materplat, the Spanish technology platform for advanced materials and nanomaterials, this specific area will present the latest developments in critical raw materials, green chemistry and advanced materials.
Companies such as Novamont, Astrea Materials and Advanced Nanotechnologies and organisations such as the Advanced Materials Cluster of Catalonia will present real examples of applied solutions based on new materials such as biodegradable and compostable biopolymers, stretchable films for the food industry and nanofilters using particles of gold.
In September, Expoquimia, Equiplast and Eurosurfas will be held together and will bring together more than 600 brands represented. This year’s unique event adapted to the current situation will be one of the first major industrial trade fairs in Europe to be held since the pandemic began.
