The Circuit will continue to host the MotoGP World Championship until 2031

The Catalan Minister of Business and Labour, Miquel Sàmper, and the CEO of Dorna Sports, Carmelo Ezpeleta, have signed today at noon the agreement to renew the staging of the MotoGP Gran Premi de Catalunya at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya until 2031, which ensures that the venue will host the premier class of motorcycling uninterruptedly during the period 2027-2031.

The previous agreement signed between Circuits de Catalunya, SL. and Dorna Sports, SL. to promote the organisation of the MotoGP World Championship at the Circuit ran from 1 January 2022 to 31 December 2026 and guaranteed a minimum of three Grand Prix races over five years. With this new agreement, the Catalan venue will host the premier class of motorcycling for the next five consecutive years (2027-2031). Thus, the Circuit will form part of the FIM MotoGP World Championship calendar for 40 years. From 1992 to 1995 it hosted the European Grand Prix and since 1966 it has hosted the Catalan Grand Prix without interruption.

The renewal of the MotoGP agreement signed today, in a ceremony which was also attended by the President of Fira de Barcelona and Fira Circuit, Pau Relat, is linked to a rethinking of the infrastructure, adapting it to the new values and principles of 21st century mobility that have been defined in the Strategic Plan of Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya with the aim of revitalising it and linking it to sustainability and technological innovation.

This agreement follows the Circuit’s highly successful hosting of the Gran Premi de Catalunya (24 to 26 May) and the Solidarity Grand Prix (15 to 17 November) in 2024, which presented a major organisational challenge for the facility and helped to raise funds for those affected by the flash flood in Valencia. The event held in November was recognised by IRTA as the best GP of the season.

The next Catalan Grand Prix will take place from 5 to 7 September 2025.

In 2025 the Catalan track has entered a new phase in which Fira Circuit, a company wholly owned by Fira de Barcelona, manages its activity with the aim of continuing to organise top-level events that position the Circuit as a leading facility in the country, improving management efficiency, diversifying its activity, and reinforcing its commitment to digitalisation and sustainability.

Miquel Sàmper, Minister of Business and Labour of the Catalan Government and President of Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya: “In an increasingly internationalised and competitive environment, the fact that Catalonia is able to maintain such a solid circuit is a success of which we should feel proud. The agreement reaffirms Catalonia’s link with motor racing and, specifically, with this Grand Prix that Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has hosted since 1992, more than 30 years ago. Securing the Gran Premi de Catalunya de MotoGP until 2031 is great news for Catalonia’s positioning as a country for top-level international sporting events”.

Carmelo Ezpeleta, Dorna Sports CEO: “We are very happy to sign this new agreement with Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. It never fails to offer fans a first-class weekend, with impressive attendance figures. In addition, the Circuit is very well connected to Barcelona, one of the most culturally relevant cities in the world. This is a winning combination for us and we are excited to continue competing in this venue”.

Pau Relat, President of Fira de Barcelona and Fira Circuit: “The extension of the agreement until 2031 is excellent news for the Circuit. We are very pleased to continue hosting the premier motorcycling competition, which has been linked to the Catalan track since 1992 and has an enormous global impact. At Fira Circuit we are committed to the institutions, to Dorna and to the entire MotoGP community so that the Grand Prix continues to meet the highest standards and becomes, year after year, an unforgettable experience for fans and members of the championship”.
