Barcelona Wine Week concludes its biggest edition as a key international event

Barcelona Wine Week has concluded its record-breaking edition, firmly establishing itself as the global reference trade fair for quality Spanish wines. Over three days, a total of 1,266 wineries from 81 Designations of Origin across Spain presented their finest wines to prominent national and international buyers. The event has now become the leading platform for entering new international markets.

Barcelona Wine Week (BWW), the key fair for quality Spanish wines, closed its doors this Wednesday at Fira de Barcelona with new record figures: 1,266 wineries from 81 Denominations of Origin and nearly 25,700 professionals, 20% of whom were international. For the first time, and in its fifth edition, the fair expanded to two pavilions to accommodate the high demand. This event has already become the largest international commercial platform for the Spanish wine sector.

Without leaving Spain, BWW provides participating wineries access to top international buyers from major distribution chains, hospitality, food service, and specialty retail. The synergies created during the event resulted in more than 13,000 business meetings between exhibiting companies and over 1,000 key national buyers, along with more than 770 international importers from strategic countries such as the United States, Canada, Germany, the United Kingdom, China, Mexico, Japan, Brazil, Colombia, and South Korea. These buyers were invited by BWW in collaboration with ICEX Spain Export and Investment. Additionally, the economic impact of the fair on Barcelona is estimated at around 17 million euros.

After the success of its fifth edition, which grew by 30% in both the number of exhibitors and exhibition space, the focus is now on the 2026 edition, which will continue with the new two-pavilion format and take place from February 2 to 4 next year.

For BWW President and D.O. Cava President, Javier Pagés, “Once again, the fair has demonstrated its tremendous appeal, positioning itself as the best commercial platform for major national and international industry players through a unique trade fair concept.”

Over the three days, nearly 360,000 glasses of wine were poured for tastings of wines from large companies as well as hundreds of small and medium-sized wineries grouped under 81 Denominations of Origin and other quality seals. The Denominations with the most presence were Ribera del Duero, D.O.Ca La Rioja, D.O.Q. Priorat, and D.O. Cava, followed by Rías Baixas, Navarra, Rueda, Montsant, V.T. Mallorca, D.O. Penedès, and D.O.P. Jumilla.

The Best Sommeliers and Masters of Wine

More than 70 experts, Masters of Wine, sommeliers, critics, and notable producers participated in the fair’s activities, analyzing major challenges and macro trends in the industry through over 150 tastings and presentations. In addition to the central theme of this edition, which focused on the revaluation of old vines, current topics such as wineries’ adaptation to climate change and the boom of white wines were also discussed. BWW 2025 featured prestigious Masters of Wine such as Fernando Mora, Doug Frost, Sarah Jane Evans, and Pedro Ballesteros.

The event was supported by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA), ICEX Spain Export and Investment, the Catalan Tourism Agency, INCAVI-Prodeca, the Spanish Wine Federation (FEV), and the Interprofessional Wine Organization in Spain (OIVE). It also received backing from Cajamar, a leading financial group in cooperative banking in Spain.
