Barcelona Wine Week 2025 expands by 30% in wineries and space, setting new records

Spain’s premier wine exhibition will celebrate its fifth edition from 3 to 5 February at the Fira de Barcelona’s Montjuïc venue, breaking all previous records. For the first time, the event will take place across two halls to accommodate 1,266 wineries from all over the country. Featuring both renowned brands and small-scale producers have reaffirmed their commitment to BWW as the premier platform to expand their reach and diversify markets.

Record-breaking growth
BWW is gearing up for the largest edition in its history, bringing together 1,266 exhibitors representing 81 Designations of Origin and other quality seals. Due to overwhelming demand, the event has expanded to two halls, increasing exhibition space by 38% to a total of 10,000 m² and hosting 33% more wineries compared to previous editions.

Among the confirmed exhibitors are major brands such as Torres, Vallformosa, Lan, Matarromera, José Pariente, Marqués del Atrio, Freixenet, and Raventós Codorníu. Joining them for the first time are prestigious wineries and collectives, including Grandes Pagos de España, Granja Nuestra Señora de Remelluri, González Byass, and Artadi. The event will also feature hundreds of medium-sized and small wineries from 81 D.O.s, including Ribera del Duero, Rioja, Priorat, Cava, Jumilla, La Mancha, and Alicante, as well as over 900 micro-wineries and small-scale projects from across Spain.

Javier Pagés, President of Barcelona Wine Week and of the D.O. Cava, emphasised: “BWW is the perfect platform to proudly showcase the quality and diversity of Spanish wines to the world, benefiting the entire sector.”

Fostering international business opportunities
To open new business avenues for exhibitors, BWW, in collaboration with ICEX, has strengthened its Hosted Buyers programme. This initiative selects and invites key wine importers and distributors from around the globe. For this edition, the programme guarantees the attendance of over 770 key international buyers from strategic markets, including traditional European destinations, as well as the United States, Canada, Germany, the United Kingdom, China, Mexico, Japan, Brazil, Colombia, and South Korea.

Domestically, BWW will also host around 1,000 buyers from large retail chains, specialist shops, and the Horeca sector, which currently represent the main distribution channels for Spanish wines.

Showcasing the best of Spanish wine
BWW 2025 will feature an exclusive programme of tastings and talks, with old-vine wines taking centre stage. Highlights include presentations by acclaimed winemakers such as Raúl Pérez (El Bierzo), widely regarded as one of Spain’s most influential oenologists, and Fernando Mora (Bodegas Frontonio), a Master of Wine and a global authority on Garnacha. Attendees will also have the unique opportunity to taste wines from pre-phylloxera vines, rare treasures from regions such as Lanzarote (Bodegas El Grifo), Pontevedra (Bodegas Gerardo Méndez), and Valladolid (Javier Sanz Viticultores). Renowned experts, including Doug Frost (Master of Wine and Master Sommelier) and Fernando Mayoral (Spain’s Best Sommelier 2024), will also discuss the secrets of old vines.

The Wine Tasting Journey space, organised by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, will offer a self-guided tasting experience featuring more than 80 old-vine wine references from across the country.

Exploring trends and sector challenges
The event programme will delve into current trends, such as the growing popularity of white wines, with sommeliers like María José Huertas (Paco Roncero) and Rodrigo Briseño (Disfrutar). It will also address industry challenges, including water management and responses to drought conditions. Leading wineries such as Abadía Retuerta, Matarromera, Raventós Codorníu, and Perelada will share insights on these pressing issues.

The visibility of women in the wine industry will also take centre stage with the “Vinos de Autora” (Signature Wines) tasting, featuring winemakers such as Mayte Calvo (Bodegas Bilbaínas), Laura Tragant (Codorníu), and Anne Cannan (Clos Figueres). BWW2025 will also host the inaugural Isabel Mijares Awards, created by Mujeres del Vino, to honour outstanding women in categories such as winemaking, sommelier expertise, viticulture, and winery management.

Exclusive tastings and new accolades
The event will include unique tasting sessions, such as “10 Magnificent Wines from D.O. Rías Baixas. A Sea of Atlantic Wines”, led by journalist and sommelier Ramon Francàs. Another highlight will commemorate the centenary of D.O.Ca Rioja, showcasing eight wines from historic vineyards in the region under the guidance of Master of Wine Pedro Ballesteros.

For the first time, BWW will host the Star Wine List Awards, celebrating the best wine lists in bars and restaurants across Spain, as well as the Best Sommelier of Catalonia competition. Additionally, the 1st International Wine Tourism Forum, organised by the Catalan Tourism Agency, will focus on world-class wine tourism initiatives from Bordeaux, Porto, and China.
