Enric Lacalle: "After 102 years of history, the show continues to stand by the automotive industry”
Automobile Barcelona prepares its edition for next October with the confirmation of leading car brands
Automobile Barcelona, the International Motor Show organized by Fira de Barcelona with the support of the Spanish Association of Automobile and Truck Manufacturers (Anfac), has confirmed the first brands showcasing at the event including BMW, Cupra, Dacia, DFSK, DR, Evo, Ford , Hispano Suiza, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Lexus, Mercedes Benz, Mini, Nissan, Renault, Seat, Smart, Suzuki and Volvo, to which other firms are expected to join in the coming weeks, together with confirmed companies from the mobility industry such as NIU (Motos Bordoy), Ray, Silence, Sunra, Mapfre, Smou and the collaboration of th Servei Català de Trànsit. The event, scheduled from September 30 to October 10 at the Montjuïc venue, will contribute to the reactivation of sales and will be one of the first in Europe after the start of the pandemic.
The president of Automobile Barcelona, Enrique Lacalle, has expressed the importance of holding this event, obviously adapted in its format and dimensions to the current context: “Barcelona does not throw in the towel, after 102 years of history the show still stands by the automotive industry. It will an event of excitement, which will undoubtedly help to relaunch the sector and one of the first in-person events in Europe since the arrival of covid-19”. In this sense, he added that “we will bring together many of the main car brands in a great event for the public, making us once again one a benchmark for motor shows and an unbeatable commercial platform to boost sales“.
The general director of ANFAC, José López-Tafall, stressed the importance of this event “in order for the public to see that the automotive sector is working hard to promote its transformation towards the mobility of the future“. “We have a commitment as an industry with the country. We represent an 11% of the GDP and employ nearly two million people across the value chain. This effort to get out of the crisis towards a new mobility is what we are going to showcase in Barcelona with our brands” he said.
The show will use halls 1 and 8 of the Montjuïc venue, as well as Maria Cristina Avenue and the surroundings of Rius i Taulet, where the car brands will showcase their latest models and carry out vehicle tests and other activities related to the motor industry. September 30 and October 1 will be the days for press and professionals, while the Automobile Barcelona will open to the public from October 2 to 10.
Digitization and sustainability
The commitment to innovation, with digitization and decarbonization as its main themes, will be strengthened in this next edition. Likewise, on the press and professional days, the face-to-face experience will be complemented with the streaming of the new model unveiling traditionally carried out by the brands at the show.
The event, the only one of in Spain with the international recognition of the OICA (Organization Internationale des Constructeurs d’Automobiles), will implement the strict protocol of safety and prevention against covid-19 developed by Fira de Barcelona for its events.
